Counselor's Role on Campus
The counselor's campus role is:
To support the academic and social/emotional growth of all students
To collaborate with stakeholders in the students' lives
To promote staff awareness of social/emotional and mental health topics
To assist students individually and in small group settings to promote a successful educational experience
Leadership and Advocacy
The Mitchell Elementary Counselor collaborates with the administration and staff to create a safe environment where students obtain self-knowledge of their social-emotional strengths and needs. The counselor leads the SEL team on campus, began the use of Calm Boxes in classrooms to encourage emotional regulation, and piloted a student leadership and service group, the Mitchell Ambassadors. This evolved into a leadership skill and service organization that serves the campus. The counselor also serves as a mentor for new elementary counselors in the district and coordinates with the administration to provide professional development for staff on specific social and emotional needs.
