GISD High School Graduation Requirements Checklist:
Advanced Course Commitments
Advanced courses are designed to challenge students at the middle school level, and help prepare students to take Advanced Placement (AP) courses in high school. To be successful in an advanced course, students should be highly motivated, responsible, and capable of becoming an independent learner. Benold Middle School offers advanced courses in the core subject areas: Math, Science, Social Studies, and Language Arts.
Due to the rigor of advanced courses, the attached pdf provides information to students and parents regarding the commitment guidelines for Georgetown ISD Advanced Academic Courses.
For more information about advanced courses, please visit the following page on the Georgetown ISD website:
Schedule Change Request
Schedule change requests must be made in writing, with a parent signature, within five (5) days of the start of class.
Requests may not be approved.
Requests for schedule changes will be approved for the following reasons:
1. Error in schedule (This will be confirmed by counselor and the course verification form. If the course verification form was not returned, this request will be denied.)
2. Student failure in prerequisite course
3. Change in program/level (athletics, band, choir, orchestra, etc.)
4. Level changes as recommended by teachers and counselor with parental knowledge and principal approval
Off Campus Physical Education (OCPE)
The purpose of the OCPE Program is to accommodate students who are making a serious effort to develop higher-level skills in a specific activity that exceeds what the school district can offer through the general physical education program. The OCPE Program allows students in 6th through 12th grades to earn credits that meet the district and state physical education requirements. Only agencies who have been trained and approved by GISD can provide OCPE credit. Applications must be submitted to your student's school counselor. All applications will be reviewed by the school counselor and then submitted to an administrator for approval.
Application Deadline Information:
Fall semester/Full-year applications will be accepted from August 2nd, 2024 through the end of the school day on August 23rd, 2024.
Spring semester applications will be accepted from December 2, 2024 through the end of the school day on the first week of school in the spring semester, January 13th 2025.
Applications must be submitted to the campus counselor. The earlier applications are received, the more planning can occur to cause the least disruption in the student's course selection and class schedule. Once received, applications will be reviewed by the campus counselor who will confirm that the agency is on the GISD approved vendor list and then submitted to a campus administrator and/or the campus athletics coordinator for approval.
Gifted & Talented (GT)
Georgetown ISD defines gifted and talented as any child or youth in grades K-12 who performs at, or shows the potential for performing at, a remarkably high level of accomplishment when compared to others of the same age, experience, or environment and who (1) exhibits high performance capability in general intellectual ability; or (2) excels in one or more specific academic fields: math, science, language arts, and/or social studies.
