Carver Center For Families
The Carver Center for Families is located in the heart of Georgetown (1200 West 17th Street) at the site of the original Carver Elementary school. The site was purchased from GISD by the Georgetown Health Foundation and launched the center on behalf of the Georgetown community in January of 2023. STARRY, a local non-profit organization, anchors the site managing daily operations, logistics, outreach, and programming.
In addition to the center being used as an inclusive gathering place for all members of the greater Georgetown community, the site will house a number of local area non-profit organizations with the overall goal of collaboratively addressing the social determinants that may exist for a family in the basic needs domain (i.e. food, clothing, shelter, legal assistance, etc).
While families may access the center independent of the school district, the GISD Counseling Services team may work with families to submit an inquiry to the center on behalf of a family when basic needs determinants arise for a family. Once permission is received by the family to submit information to the Carver Center, specific non-profit organizations will have the opportunity to connect with the family independent of GISD.
The Carver Center for Families is not affiliated with GISD and the school district cannot guarantee any outcome. For more information about the center, email school counselor(s).
School Based Therapy (SBT)
Students needing additional or ongoing support may be referred by the school counselor for School-Based Therapy (SBT).
SBT therapists collaborate with staff and families to determine needs and goals. Direct Service means that the student will attend therapy at school. Students typically attend 6 to 12 direct SBT sessions. Specific goals are set and progress is monitored throughout. Upon completion of SBT, your student's therapist will communicate further recommendations.
