East View counselors meet one-on-one with each student in 8-12th grade to review course selections, graduation plan, transcript, graduation readiness, and college, career, and military readiness. The individual meetings with all students has allowed East View counselors to better know their students and personalize every student's high school experience, while also allowing for a comprehensive review of every students' progress towards their individual goals.
Data from the Student Experiences Survey given in Spring of 2022 was collected and used to assess our current programs and develop plans for future activities. The quantitative data suggests that our students feel respected and comfortable at school (as seen in the graph to the right). However, qualitative data suggested that connection needed to be a continued focus. That's why EVHS counselors make a continued effort to meet with all students one-on-one throughout the year.
East View High School is located on the outskirts of the Austin metropolitan area. Consequently, we have many families who recently moved to the area, including a host of families with limited financial means. Seeing the need to help students be successful at school by providing basic essentials, we collaborated with parents to establish The Locker Foundation at our school.
The Locker Foundation itself was established by former GISD parents to help students in need. This organization uses a student service-learning model to inspire students to give back to their community, so that every child has a sense of normalcy.
Through the years, East View counselors have helped coordinate with The Locker to provide school supplies, overnight emergency shelter, athletic equipment, winter apparel, as well as temporary food and toiletries to students and their families.
The Locker started at East View the year it opened. Each year, we have over 1,000 visits to The Locker by our students. This parental community collaboration has been vital to the success of our school. We could not think of opening our doors without this tremendous parental support.
