Born and raised in a small town in Wisconsin, Monica came to her love for singing early in life, singing with her mother and playing the family piano.
At the University of Texas, Monica was a member of the Chamber Singers with Craig Hella Johnson and the contemporary a cappella group “Ensemble 109”. She studied bel canto vocal methods, jazz studies, and contemporary vocal styles. Earning a Bachelor’s of Music, Monica continued her education with a Master’s of Choral Conducting. Post-graduate studies include work in Choral Pedagogy at the University of Kansas, contemporary arranging with Deke Sharon, and jazz studies with Janice Borla.
Monica went on to teach over 25 years in choral music education. Her students earned many accolades and honors and have gone on to earn top scholarships and become music educators themselves.
Currently, Monica teaches privately at East View High School, Musical Theater at the Zach Scott North Campus, and at Austin Community College. When she isn’t spreading her love of music with her students, Monica is cooking for her husband, reading, watching her Packers play football, or hiking the Austin trails with her corgi puppy: Tucker.
● Students who enroll in 1-on-1 private lessons will receive weekly coachings from Ms. Knoedl during their choir period where we’ll explore establishing musical goals, vocal technique, breathing exercises, and building confidence as a performer!
● This is an excellent place for students to work on solo repertoire for auditions and performances, All State Choir audition material, and strengthening your musical ear and sight reading skills.
● Lessons are a space where the student is encouraged to explore a variety of musical styles to broaden skills as a vocalist across a number of musical genres.
Why Voice Lessons?
● 1-on-1 voice lessons are essential for learning about your specific voice and how to properly and healthily produce the best tone. We will work to cultivate a tone that sounds AND feels great!
● Additional time to work on skills that you may not feel comfortable sharing in a group setting just yet.
● CONFIDENCE. This is something you can apply in many areas of your life, not just in music! CONFIDENCE IS KEY!
Rates: $30 per lesson (around $120 a month) Lessons will be held on a weekly basis during the student’s choir period. Because there is limited availability, each slot will be filled on a first-come-first-served basis. Contact voice teacher for information about rates.
