The International Workshop on Spanish Sociolinguistics is a biennial conference that brings together scholars and students from around the world to explore the study of language in society, with a particular emphasis on Spanish and/or its contact with other languages. The workshop welcomes research from all fields and methodologies, including synchronic and diachronic perspectives, quantitative and qualitative approaches, studies of language variation and change, contact linguistics, bilingualism and multilingualism, Spanish in the United States and Canada, pidgin and creole languages, language policy and planning, as well as language ideologies.
The 12th edition of the International Workshop on Spanish Sociolinguistics continues the tradition of bringing together scholars and students from around the world to explore the study of language in society. Hosted this year at Georgetown University, WSS12 will highlight the contributions of ethnoracial, gender, and Indigenous identities to the linguistic richness of the Spanish-speaking world. Keynote addresses will reflect these central themes, offering insight into the diverse experiences and perspectives that shape contemporary Spanish sociolinguistics.
