When beginning to conduct informational interviews, start with second-year, full-time MBA students who interned with the organization or students who have work experience at the organization, then first/second-year associates, then upper management, and so on. You will gradually build organization and industry knowledge and will be positioned to make the strongest impression on senior decision makers. Each year there are often many Flex students who are current government employees and can be a great resource for networking.
The Business and Government Alliance and the McDonough Military Association are designed to facilitate students’ awareness of opportunities that exist between the public and private spaces. MAA also supports military veterans who wish to transition into new business careers within these sectors.
The Georgetown McDonough Net Impact Club organizes Career Treks and a Career Day related to careers that promote social responsibility and public good. The Social Impact Internship Fund (SIIF) aims to raise funds and award scholarships to support MBA students who are pursuing unpaid or minimally paid internships in social impact organizations (including those in government work).
