The summer can be challenging for finding group time to work on SLPs. In response to this challenge, we have extended group work time for this cohort. We will spend the initial session in the morning talking about visualization of information for presentations and developing a core statement. Following this session, we have scheduled 20 minute meetings with Jeanine between 10:30-12:15 and 1:30-2:45. This schedule allows Jeanine to meet with all four groups before lunch and all four groups after lunch. In addition to this scheduled time which has been very helpful for past groups, we have reserved the last session in afternoon for you to continue with your group projects. Jeanine will be available to work with groups after 3:15, but will not be scheduled with any specific group. We look forward to a productive day on July 13!! Your group is expected to be at Georgetown for the full day.

This workshop explores influence strategies that help managers get things done with and through other people. This session provides participants with reliable, time-tested plans for getting cooperation from those who command the resources, information, or support you need. We discuss how to negotiate using the currencies people value most in their own day-to-day work life, so you can turn others into allies—particularly those whom you have little to no authority over. In addition, we discuss basic coaching competencies and how to provide influential feedback.
While persuasion and influence skills are important to a leader’s effectiveness, a critical element of a leader’s toolkit is her/his ability to motivate senior management to champion their work. In this discussion-based session, we analyze several real situations in which leaders have to implement multiple motivational strategies and discuss the evidence-based research that supports different strategies to work effectively with senior management. Participants will analyze their own motivational tendencies and expand their own toolkit of methods to work with senior leaders who may be very different from themselves. Participants will practice coaching conversations that have a motivational orientation, discuss setting mutually beneficial expectations, and establishing work arrangements that support different work styles.
Please think of an influential conversation that you have had in the past that you would like to “re-do” or an influential conversation that you need to have in the next few weeks. Then complete the following document before our session (20 minutes):
