We are not allowed to show our creativity, we are not allowed to listen to music what help some people learn more and that, we can't embrace who we are truly are like (e.g having coloured hair and having piercings). This will not affect our learning and it's not fair teachers can and we can't there just older then us.

Our response:

The school has a set uniform policy to ensure that we are appropriately dressed for all types of sessions that can occur throughout the school day. A uniform creates a sense of pride, respect and community with all students adhering to the set rules, the same as an employee in an Emergency Service, Army, and other jobs where uniforms are required. Piercings unfortunately cause a Health and Safety risk, especially in lessons such as PE.

Students are more than welcome to express their physical creativity during non-school hours and holidays. In school there are many clubs and subjects where imagination and intellectual creativity is encouraged.

You asked:

Could we have Year 8 Library lessons?

response:

We are looking into getting library use into lessons in Year 7 and year 8 next year. This is not a definite as a lot of things need to be considered within the timetable and staffing constraints.

You Asked:

For the doors to be unlocked so you can get to the library and toilets between lessons.

Response:

The doors to school have been locked to ensure safety of students and staff. We have had members of the public access a building and that simply is not right, hence the move to lock them down. We did this earlier than planned and, as such, there have been some teething troubles but we are ironing these out as we go along.

  • Remove the phone and music ban
  • Allow us to listen to music in certain lessons, such as: art, computing, english, e.t.c.
  • Make the phone rule less intensive, like hold off on it, it makes it harder for students to talk to parents if you need to

Response:

The phone ban was a Trust decision across all the Academies. It has been successful in improving behavior and defiance with existing phone rules. We will survey parents, students and staff in due course and make a final decision from there.

You asked:

For soap to be available in toilet areas

Our response:

Soap is regularly put in the toilet areas, however it is always a good idea to have your own hand sanitiser as the soaps can run out quickly with the number of students using the facilities

  • At break we are finding it very difficult to get into the library as there are so many people waiting for tuck that it is almost impossible to get in
  • I'd like the lunch queue that goes in through the doors behind English to stay to the right of the side so people who wish to go to the library can enter without having to wait or push past them. Thank you in advance.
  • When I wish to go to the library at break I have to go to the one nearest to art but there are so many people it takes about 5 mins to get in so could you maybe ask them to stand to the side

Response:

New lining up system put in place to keep the bulk of students outside the building behind barriers leaving the doors and corridor leading to the Library clear.

  • Can we have more vegetarian options as the meat eaters also have them and the cafeteria often runs out before I get there
  • Could the food in the canteen be labelled with the main ingredients in as some people don't eat some foods but it's not down to allergies. things like the meat included, dairy, butter or mayonnaise and if the meal is vegan, vegetarian.

Response:

Every day we have a cold selection of vegetarian baguettes ,sandwiches and wraps most days there are some available till the end. If there are no vegetarian options left at the end of service we would make the student a baguette or sandwich, they just have to ask.

At lunch time we have a vegetarian main option and jacket potatoes always available till the end.

All the food is labelled with what the item is eg: chicken & bacon baguette they are also symbols letting customers know what is in the product eg wheat ,egg, mayo .

We have started doing vegan cobs which have a label saying they are suitable for vegans.
