Complete the Step Up to Sixth Form general transition work below.
You must also complete any subject specific transition work for all subjects you are planning to study.
Please read the instructions carefully before you start and contact GSA_SixthForm@georgespencer.org.uk if you have any questions.
Read through the following information as the work needs to be completed before starting at Sixth Form and will be handed in.
Step up to Sixth Form - Essential Skills
What is this? Studying at Sixth Form requires you to develop some specific study skills. It is important that you understand what they are and start to practise them before you start your courses in September. The skills that you develop will enable you to achieve success. They will also prove useful in the future, whether you are intending to go to university, start an apprenticeship or go down an employment route. The resources here are from a national organisation about Sixth Forms, and so are perfect for introducing you to key skills that you will need.
What do you need to do? There are many tasks that you can complete, but the key ones are listed below, and these must be completed.
Please work through and complete all of the following tasks. Instructions are in the Task sections below. Keep your work that you do in a folder as you will need to hand it in.
Task 1 - Taking Notes
Task 3 - Having a goal that drives you
Task 6 - Organisation
Task 7 - The Leap from GCSE
Task 11 - Presenting with Confidence - you will do the presentation to your tutor group in the first few weeks of term.
These tasks have been selected as the key ones to help you to step up to studying at sixth form. The other tasks are really useful too, so if you want to do these in addition, then that will be even better! Some slides might refer to a password - you wont need one to be able to click on all the resources, so ignore this.
How to submit this work - you need it during your first registration session in September as you will show it to your Learning Manager and discuss what you have learned as a group.

Task 11: Presenting with Confidence
Follow the instructions below.
Take a look at one or more of the TED talks presentations Before Public Speaking .
Think about a person who inspires you...…
On a new piece of paper write the title ‘Independent Research - Inspiring Person’
Find out information about your inspiring person. Detail the achievements, and what they mean to you personally. Write a short conclusion to summarise your reasoning.
Plan a presentation about the person you have researched. This will be done in front of others. You can use pictures/PowerPoint etc. Give a 2 minute summary of what you have investigated (no more). You will be presenting this to your new tutor group. Presenting can make people nervous but it is an important life skill, and important both at university and in the workplace. It will be a relaxed and no pressure environment as everyone in your tutor group will be doing one too.
Prepare for the presentation properly - you cannot present if you don't have the information. Think about writing some flashcards to prompt you as just reading from a piece of paper isn't the best way to get information across to others.
