ESL

Summary of learning:

Students read and analysed their text for the character development in their novel/story. They explored and developed a character from their story.


Tasks to be completed:

Students to create a playlist- “How to use music to communicate about the characters in a story”?

Spelling:

EFL:

Summary of learning:

The students used varied reading strategies to explore a mystery story in their respective PBL groups. They also explored the elements of an effective mystery story.


Tasks to be completed:

Students to complete reading the mystery story assigned to their respective PBL groups.

Math

Summary of learning: This week students were able to find the modal class and the group containing the median. Students also solved problems involving percentage change and compound interest.

Biology

Summary of Learning - In biology this week students continued with their project theme, ‘The world population is expected to rise to 9 billion in 2050. How will we continue to sustain food production?’ They learned about sewage pollution, pollution, fish farming and how to collect results in a way that gives reliable and valid data. Students linked these concepts to the project question which will be showcased in the week beginning 27th June (textbook pages 212-217).

Task to be completed - For their homework this week students should read the passage on page 211 on fish farming and then complete one of the following tasks.

1) Identify 10 key words mentioned in this passage and define them in their own words.

2) Write a 3 mark exam question, with a mark scheme, based on this information. You will be challenging students to complete this in one of your lessons next week.

Students could also continue to work on their project as part of their homework.


Chemistry

Summary of Learning - In chemistry this week students continued with their project theme, ‘The world population is expected to rise to 9 billion in 2050. How will we continue to sustain food production?’ They learned about the percentages of the gases in the atmosphere. They also learned how to calculate the percentage of oxygen practically. Students linked these concepts to the project question which will be showcased in the week beginning 27th June.

Task to be completed - For their homework this week students should choose 1 of the 3 YouTube links below and then answer the following questions. Students should respond to these questions on the Google Doc assigned to them in their Chemistry Google Classroom.

1) State the reactants and products of each reaction

2) Write down the word equation and symbol equation

3) Write your observations?

4) Identify the properties of the product.

Physics

Summary of Learning - In physics this week students continued with their project theme, , ‘The world population is expected to rise to 9 billion in 2050. How will we continue to sustain food production?’. They were given feedback on how they could improve their project and learned how to decide upon a solution to the problem. Students linked these concepts to the project question which will be showcased in the week beginning 27th June.

Task to be completed - For their homework this week students should continue working on their project and then upload their project work so far, even if it is not yet completed, so that their teacher can provide them with some feedback. For students who have already had feedback, they should continue working on their project and make any suggested improvements.

Geography

Summary of learning: In continuing with their project theme for geography. Students recall the aim and the steps of PBL. In this week they learned about the prediction and preparation methods for natural hazards.

Students linked these concepts to the project Big question.

Task to be completed: Why the destructive energy of an earthquake is most often threatening at coasts?

History

Summary of learning: Students learned on the outbreak of the Second World War that Britain’s towns and cities would be targeted again – but on a much bigger scale! Students research to find out - the number of people evacuated by the British Government in September 1939.

Students also understood - to protect the people the Government also decided to move the most vulnerable people away from the dangerous areas.

Topic- HOME FRONT- Evacuation

Task to be completed: How would you feel being evacuated? Remember you don’t know who your host family will be.

Imagine you have to be evacuated. What would you take with you?

Remember you only have one suitcase.

ICT

Summary of Learning:

In ICT this week students will learn how to design their own mobile application, the students will create and design a new mobile application in powerpoint presentation using different tools (text, images, and shapes)


Optional Task:

Students should complete the activity posted in google classroom.

Business

Summary of learning:


In Grade 8 Business this week students continued with Project based learning. They were asked to watch videos to revisit the topics on target Market, market segmentation, locations and the factors affecting choice of location etc.

The students were asked to work on preparing a business plan for their new start up business

Following points were asked to be analyzed for their business plan:

Mention the name of their business.

Aim and objective of their business.

Decide a location for your business and specify the reason for selecting.

Mention their product/ services and how is it satisfying the need in the market.

Analyze their strength and weakness.

Finding out their competitors and how they are going to be different from them.


Economics

Summary of learning:

Students analysed the reasons for deficit and surplus.

Students watched the video on the impact of current account deficit and did in depth research on the impact of current account deficit.


Task to be completed: Activity 2 of chapter 28 and did a presentation of their research with exam practice MCQs

Home work:- to complete the exam practice of chapter 28
