Week Twelve - November 18th 2021
Dear Primary School Parents,
It has been a busy week in Primary! We had our second group of primary students visit Expo 2020 (grade 4) to focus on sustainability of our planet, an important concept for us all to focus on. If you have a student in grade 4, please ask them about their learning!
Another highlight this week was hosting our much anticipated sports week! Remaining active and focusing on physical wellbeing is a key component to educating our children. However, sports week focuses on so much more than physical growth. Students take part in all sorts of activities including cooperative, collaborative and competitive pursuits allowing them to develop resilience, perseverance and empathy. Please also remember we are entering the last week of the Dubai 30x 30 challenge. Students are welcome to come and take part in the "Daily Mile" each morning 7:30-8:00 on the football pitch. It's a great way to start the day!
We have hit a nice stride with learning at this point in the year. Grade levels have really begun to dig into the more challenging learning objectives with time to assess and swing back to concepts and skills multiple times for consolidation. We have a wonderful parent workshop this coming Wednesday, led by our programme coordinators to introduce how math is taught in the PYP. Please find the ad and link to the live session below. We look forward to seeing you there!

Ms. Panayota and the Grade 5s have been making abstract art this week. They have been working in small collaborative groups and taking inspiration from the UAE . Each team's goal was to use the colors from the UAE flag, in honor of National Day. Their task was to create a poster, as a team, using their previous learning about abstract art techniques to celebrate the UAE. Please ask your child about their work of art!
Email your child's homeroom teacher before 8am so that he / she can mark their absence as excused.
Complete an absence form for more than 2 days and submit to homeroom teacher on the child's first day back at school after absence.
Absence for more than 3 days requires doctors clearance (in some cases a medical certificate is requested )
Email the gis_primaryleaverequest@gemsedu.com and your child's homeroom teacher 48 hours in advance to ensure your child and their leave slip are prepared in advance.
At the time of collection, please come to the Primary Reception at Gate 4.
Any students requiring remote learning access must contact the Primary office to initiate access. The conditions shared have been:
A student has a medical condition which prevents them from accessing face-to-face learning. In this case, the student must provide a medical certificate from Dubai Health Authority, stating the reason they cannot attend school. I understand this is challenging to get with strict criteria.
A student is outside of the UAE and is unable to return due to international Covid restrictions. In this case, the student must provide a certificate from the relevant government authority as applicable and in advance.
A student has tested positive for Covid-19 or has been identified as a close contact of someone with Covid-19. In this case, the student must have the appropriate certificate from Dubai Health Authority.
