Week Nine - November 3rd, 2023
Dear Parents & Guardians
Another busy week comes to a close at GIS!
Our Grade 10 to 12 students had the opportunity to chat to university representatives from the UK this week. As the last of our university fairs until next year, Ms Meena coordinated 25 institutions such as University of Nottingham, Kent, Dundee, Manchester, Surrey, Southampton and Bath. Students enjoyed chatting to representatives from the various universities, getting to know more about what courses are on offer and what the life of a student is like at their College. The event was very well attended and sparked some interesting conversations among our students.
This week we also saw the StuELT 22/23 handover to the incoming StuELT for 2023/2024. For a number of weeks, interested Grade 11 students have been busy tidying up CV’s, addressing pressing questions on panels and being interviewed by senior staff, including Mr Simon and I. Last week, the 10 successful candidates were informed that they had been appointed to the StuELT, however they did not know in what capacity. This was revealed yesterday in our StuELT handover assembly. Therefore, I would like to introduce you to the new GIS StuELT. Congratulations to:
Manya Singh President
Nada Shuhaib Vice President
Suhani Kothari Director of Future Skills Academy
Ezra D’Souza Head of Student Life
Krishnna Pratheesh Head of Social
Devsubhash Mahajan Head of Academics
Rania AbdulHussein Head of House
Sanjna Tanna Head of Arts
Monique Fourie Head of Sports & Health
Ria Kulkarni Head of Service Committee
I must however, thank the outgoing StuELT. It has been a pleasure to work with Tariebi, Jeeya, Yusra, Mina, Rohan, Ernesto, Nina-Marie, Mischa, Aalia, Naya over the last 12 months. They have worked hard for their respective committees and this has been greatly appreciated by all. Thank you and well done.
Today marks the final Meet & Greet Potluck gathering for the term. Our Grade 11 and 12 families enjoyed chatting to staff and meeting other parents. While students enjoyed the brief down time to stop and possible decompress after a busy week. Thank you to parents who attended and for all the ongoing support.
Finally, thank you to our students who participated in the raising of the UAE Flag today during this important ceremony. The respectful manner and pride demonstrated was appreciated and evidence of the love held for this wonderful nation that we all call home.
Have a wonderful week ahead
Ms Amanda Murphy
