Week Nine - November 3rd, 2023
Beginning November 13th, the secondary school will be celebrating literature and creativity all week long! Starting that Monday, during homeroom, all grades will participate in poetry competitions with their peers. The selected winners from the homeroom teachers will then battle it out with each other during lunch. On that Monday, the winners from Grade 6 will battle it out in the library. Likewise, the winners from Grade 7 will battle it out at the blackbox. There will be a panel of student judges in each location. On that Tuesday, it will be grades 7 and 8 battling it out. This trend will continue until that Thursday with the winners being notified by the panel of judges that Wednesday evening. That Thursday, November 16th, will be the finale of everything! It will be our talent show! The poet winners from the week will present their creativity, followed by students in the fine arts department flexing their creative muscles. And finally, one of the last events that evening will be students giving TED talks.
Families and the overall GIS community will bear witness to such amazing talent among our secondary students!
Dubai Fitness Challenge sparks an exciting month-long celebration of fitness and wellness. It challenges individuals to complete 30 minutes of exercise each day for 30 days (30X30). The challenge aims to inspire everyone to create a fitness-focused mindset and seek healthy, active lifestyles. To celebrate this initiative, GIS will be hosting a range of sporting activities over the next 4 weeks. Alongside PHE lessons, there will be opportunities for pupils to participate in a range of fitness/sporting challenges. Also included are opportunities for staff to get involved in some fun, competitive, and fitness-related activities. Please see the attached calendar for more information.
The Grade 10 Parent Meet & Greet held on Friday 27th of October was a long awaited success. The celebration had been postponed before the break due to different unforeseen events and the rain almost put a further delay on it this time round too. Thankfully it went ahead and turned out to be a real success and celebration of the Grade 10’s and their community that is supporting them through their academic journey here at GIS.
One of the highlights of the morning was the incredible range of international cuisine that was shared among attendees. The staff and students were certainly grateful for the preparation and generosity of the parents for the wonderful range of food that was shared. The Grade 10s displayed maturity and initiative during the event and were seen hosting and serving the teachers and and parents. Their dedication and warmth were truly commendable, and their conduct exemplified Respect, Trust and Ambition, the core values of our school.
Beyond the delicious food, what truly made the event a success was the connections that were formed amongst our diverse community. Parents, teachers, and students had the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations, fostering a sense of belonging and togetherness that is so vital in our school.
Thank you to the parents who were able to attend on Friday, your presence and active participation played a pivotal role in making this event a success. Your involvement is invaluable in strengthening the bonds within our school community.
The Grade 10 Parent Meet & Greet was just the beginning. We eagerly look forward to organizing more events that encourage interaction, celebration, and the building of lasting connections. Let's continue to cherish the diversity that makes our school community so special. Thank you, once again, for your support and participation in this wonderful event and a special thank you to the school leadership team for initiating and organizing the Grade 10 Meet & Greet.
