Week Eight - October 18th, 2024
Sarah McLean
Head of Primary
Dear Primary Parents,
As we wrap up this half term, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you for your continued support and partnership. It has been a wonderful few months of learning, growth, and fun, and we are incredibly proud of what our students have accomplished so far.
We wish you and your family a restful and enjoyable mid-term break!
We look forward to welcoming students back on Tuesday, October 29th.
A few reminders as we look ahead:
Fall/Autumn Costume Dress-Up Day will take place on Thursday, October 31st, and we can't wait to see the creative outfits that the children come up with! Please ensure that costumes are school-appropriate and do not include any weapons or violent themes.
We are excited to announce that GIS will kick off the Dubai 30x30 Fitness Challenge starting October 29th! This is a fantastic opportunity for students, staff, and families to prioritize health and fitness through 30 minutes of activity each day for 30 days. Let’s get active together! Please look out for a Toddle announcement about this from Mr Ryan.
On the 4th of November we will celebrate Diwali hosted by our parent community, the joyous festival of lights. We will embrace this event by inviting students to dress up in either traditional Indian dress or bright colours.
Lastly, a big thank you to the GISPA for organizing a fantastic Women's Health Week! Their efforts in raising awareness and promoting well-being have been truly appreciated by the whole community.
Have a wonderful break, and we’ll see you back soon!
Warm regards,
Sarah Mclean
Emirates Festival of Literature – Chevron Cup Poetry for All annual competition.
A huge congratulations to all 23 students who entered the internal first round poetry recital ! The judges were truly impressed by the number of participants, especially those from Grade 3. Your courage and passion for poetry were on full display, and we are so proud of each and every one of you. Whether it was your first recital or one of many, you all brought something special to the stage. Well done, and keep nurturing that creative spirit!
Well done and good luck to our two finalists, Farida Elzarka 5G and Shaurya Balaji 4H, who will be representing GIS in Round 2 of the competition. Shatakshi Anand 5A and Shriya Pathikonda 3B, were runners-up to the finalists!
Parents have all received a notification to sign up for the Toddle platform. This is an exciting enhancement to our parent communication, and this year you will receive weekly updates through the Toddle platform.
This IB affiliated platform will offer opportunities for parents to remain up to date with their child's academic progress.
The below class pages will host resources for parents and will no longer have weekly messages. All information will be sent through Toddle, so please inform your class teacher if you have any trouble registering.
Any absence (whether it is planned or unplanned ) must be communicated via email to the homeroom teacher and gis_primaryleaverequest@gemsedu.com by 8:00 AM. STS/bus users must also copy the STS manger on the email. vijesh.kumar@sts-group.com
A planned or extended absence beyond 2 days requires the completion of an absence request form.
Absence for more than 3 days requires prior approval if planned or a doctors clearance for illness related leave (in some cases a medical certificate is requested )
Parents are urged to schedule medical, dental and other appointments after school hours or during vacations.
A request must be submitted before a child can be released once in school for health and safety and reasons.
Filling in the form 24hrs in advance is expected where possible.
At the time of collection, please come to the Primary Reception at Gate 4.
