Week Four - September 20th, 2024
Sarah McLean
Head of Primary
Dear GIS Primary Families,
I hope this message finds you well. We had another fantastic week in the PYP full of learning, assessment and celebration.
Today we celebrated International Dot Day in PYP. Our PreK - G1 students dressed up in their most creative dot-themed outfits, adding a vibrant splash of color and joy to the day. Meanwhile, students in Grades 2-5 were supported by our parents association, GISPA, to paint dots in different ways as a special activity. A special thanks goes to GISPA for their continued support in organizing these fun and enriching activities.
This week we also hosted part 2 of our Our recent Back to School event focused on connection. The event(s) was a tremendous success, with over 500 parents attending over the 3 days! It was heartening to see such strong engagement from our parent community as we come together and learn about their students' new grade levels, meet their homeroom teachers and connect with other parents. Your participation makes GIS a supportive and inclusive environment for all students. Please find the back-to-school event slides, and as promised during the presentation I am resharing the PYP Curriculum Site, which houses all of our curriculum documents for core subjects and single subjects.
As you know, we have begun and continue to complete our external assessments. This week students in G1-5 took the NGRT (New Group Reading Test) assessments. Next week and beyond, they will take MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) assessments. These assessments are essential for helping us understand each student’s individual learning needs and progress, allowing us to tailor our teaching accordingly.
Thank you for your ongoing support in making GIS a vibrant, collaborative, and thriving learning community.
Warm regards,
Sarah McLean
Observed annually on or around September 15, International Dot Day is inspired by author Peter H. Reynolds' book “The Dot,” which teaches creativity, courage and collaboration.

This IB affiliated platform will offer opportunities for parents to remain up to date with their child's academic progress.
The below class pages will host resources for parents and will no longer have weekly messages. All information will be sent through Toddle, so please inform your class teacher if you have any trouble registering.
