Ensuring Additional Support for All Students.
This academic year we are launching a new support initiative for all students at GIS. Academic Priority is a system of academic support for students that they can access in addition to their regular classes across all departments.
Each department holds a session once a week. The exact timings and locations for each department can be found on the Academic Priority Schedule posted below. This is also available on ManageBac.
Academic priority is staffed by teachers from the departments, ensuring that students have access to the teachers they need. Any student who needs additional support, has a question or just wants to discuss a particular topic is welcome at Academic Priority. There are no fixyed topics for a session. The teacher will provide support based on the individual student’s needs on a particular day.
In addition, teachers make themselves available to any student who needs support whenever possible. We are looking forward to the impact Academic Priority will have on our students progress and attainment.
Please see below for the Term 3 schedule.

Attending the GWA Business Youth Summit (BYS) was a truly transformative and insightful experience. Throughout the summit, we delved into the fundamentals of decision-making in companies, explored the key components that drive successful startups, and gained a deeper understanding of how to build and maintain profitability in real-world business environments. One of the highlights was the chance to engage directly with industry leaders from globally recognized companies like Nestle and Visa, as well as meet inspiring entrepreneurs who shared their journeys. Our team had the opportunity to pitch our idea on 'The Future of Hybrid Workspaces' to a board of judges, and receive feedback on it. The entire experience gave us hands-on exposure to the real world of entrepreneurship and business, and shaped our perspectives as future leaders.

As part of their summative assessment, Grade 8 Drama students recently performed Anxiety is Orange by Lindsay Price. This compelling play explores the many forms of teenage anxiety through a series of short, sharp scenes that reveal the internal struggles and emotional pressures faced by young people.
Throughout the unit, students built their performance and characterisation skills while working closely as an ensemble. Teamwork, focus, and creative collaboration were key highlights, with each student contributing to a thoughtful and powerful final performance.

Students from Grades 6 to 10 showcased their imagination and storytelling skills in the Creative Writing Club Competition, thoughtfully organized by Merishka Maharaj, our Head Student Leader for the Creative Writing Club. This event encouraged students to express themselves through short stories exploring meaningful themes such as mental health, courage, friendship, identity, and fantasy.
The competition served as a rich learning opportunity, using fiction as a powerful way to promote empathy and awareness. The quality of entries impressed the judging panel, who commended the creativity and depth demonstrated in each piece.
