Week Thirty Two - May 30th, 2025
Dear Parents,
Last week saw a wonderful Graduation Ceremony for our Grade 12s. The event, held in the Fairmont Hotel on the Palm, was a success from start to finish, with speeches, memories shared, and tributes given. The graduates were grateful for their time at the school and the support from teachers and parents. In turn, staff and parents were so proud of these remarkable young people. My thanks to Mr Lewis, Mr Conor, Ms Meena, Ms Rejina, Mr Vikas, Mr Sujay and all involved in the preparations and organisation. What a special day it was for all.
This week, we were treated to another amazing musical at GIS, this time from our Primary School students. Over fifty children were involved, either backstage, or in prop creation, or as actors, singers and dancers on stage. It was such a lovely evening and we all came out singing and with broad smiles on our faces. Well done to all, and of course in particular to Nemo, played by Mila R (G4), Dory, played by Tammy L (G5) and Marlin, played by Anirudh H (G5). The dedicated staff behind the direction and production also deserve a huge thank you: Ms Melissa, Ms Andrea, Ms Panayota, Mr Rick and Mr Boris.
Along with dramatic art, we also have a huge celebration of visual and musical arts this week, as we enjoy Primary Arts Week. My thanks to Mr Tim, Ms Anastasia and Mr Satyajeet for the music mornings and workshops. And I have honestly never seen such a fine display of Primary School art in our front reception. I was delighted to see the influence of French artist Henri Rousseau in the animal imagery on display. As a young teacher many years ago, I would take students on French exchange trips each year to Laval, in France, which was Henri Rousseau’s home town. Please do drop by and take a look – parents are very welcome as ever. My thanks to Ms Panayota, Ms Sue, Ms Emma and Ms Andrea.
As we head into the midterm break, we wish you and your families a restful and joyful holiday. To those celebrating, Eid Mubarak! May this special time of Eid al-Adha bring peace, happiness, and meaningful moments with loved ones.
Enjoy the break, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready for the remainder of the term.
Kind regards,
Family First
We are delighted to share some wonderful news with you— These three students, Ariana Grade 2, Yuna Amalie Grade 3, and Merishka Grade 9, were selected as the winners of our recent Family First Art Competition!
Their outstanding artwork, created under the theme "Family Routes" and inspired by the gemstone aquamarine, beautifully reflected the value of adaptability. We were deeply impressed by their creativity and thoughtfulness in expressing this powerful theme through art.
As a celebration of this achievement, their work is displayed on our Family First Tree in the school reception area. In addition, the artwork was put forward to represent our school in the GEMS-wide Family First Art Competition, for which they were shortlisted —a fantastic opportunity to showcase their talent on a larger stage.
To recognise their achievement, they were awarded a certificate by Mr. Simon, our Head of School.
Dear Parents,
As the end of the year is rapidly approaching, we wanted to share details on the
Teacher Appreciation Lunch.
We received approval for Thursday, 12 June to appreciate our amazing
teachers!
As part of the organization for this day, we have decided to break down the grade
levels with items that they are welcome to bring. This allows a good balance of meals
available. This year we decided to bring back the charcuterie table as it was the
highlight of the day.
● Pre-K, KG1 and KG2 - items for Charcuterie Table.
Ex: Cheese, Cured Meats (no pork), fresh fruits and dried (grapes, figs, etc.,),
chocolates, olives, jelly/jams, crackers and bread type items.
● Grade 1, 2, 3 and 4 - Main Dishes
● Grade 5 and 6 - Salads
● Grade 7 and 8 - Drinks (juices & soft drinks)
● Grade 9 and 10 - Desserts
Please keep in mind that pork and nuts shouldn’t be included in any of the
dishes as per GIS guidelines.
Please note, participation is not obligatory. Families are welcomed to bring
something if they’d like. As in previous years, this day has always been such a huge
event and teachers always enjoy, as well as appreciate all the effort everyone puts in.
As we get closer to the date, we will share the location to drop off your
dishes. Thank you always for your support. We look forward to continuing the success
of this special event.
Kind regards,
GISPA
The Country Ambassador program was launched in 2021 with the intention of helping connect families with their motherland tongue and country. Small community sub groups have been created to help integrate new families from these specific countries as they enroll at GIS. We encourage you to join your country group via the QR code.
Although as a whole, we are one big family, it’s always nice to connect with those from our country. Ultimately, the goal is to have at least ONE representative for each country.
If you see that your country or ambassador is not listed and you are interested in representing your country, please reach out to us via email at gispa@gemsisak.com
Our Iranian, Egyptian and Latino parents have already started to welcome returning and new parents on a nice breakfast gathering.
We encourage all GIS communities to get together and keep us posted.
GIS house color t-shirts and swim wear will be available to purchase from threads.
