Week Twenty Nine - May 10th, 2024
Dear Parents & Guardians
I would like to begin this week by commending our teachers for the ambitious and engaging work that is taking place in our classrooms. In the lessons that I visited this week, I was delighted with the level of engagement from students and the challenge that teachers were stretching the students with. Mr Harry and I have also been meeting with the Heads of Department and analyzing the data from each team in our termly data dives. We have been very impressed with the level of knowledge that our teachers have of their students, and the interventions in place to extend our learners.
Building on this knowledge, staff across both the primary and the secondary schools have been coming together in recent weeks to collaborate on curriculum, well-being and inclusion. The sharing of ideas and the examples of best practice have enhanced enthusiasm and excitement among the staff, and having the time to sit and collaborate with colleagues has been very well received.
Grade 11 students participated in two Extended Essay workshops this week led by Ms Rena and Ms Terri. The Extended Essay is a 4 000 word paper that our DP students are required to submit as part of the DP Core and it is one aspect of the DP that sets it apart from other curriculums. All students are provided with a supervisor to guide them through this progress which is complemented by the sessions led by Ms Rena and Ms Terri.
Finally, I would like to wish all of our swimmers the best of luck. Our team departed from DXB yesterday heading to London to compete in the World Schools International Competition. Best of luck for the tournament over the next few days. We look forward to their return next week where we can hear of their adventures!
Kind regards
Amanda Murphy
Head of Secondary School
