Week Twenty Nine - May 10th, 2024
Dear Parents,
We had an exciting day today with our Threads of Change sustainability fashion show! Our students showcased their creativity and commitment to sustainable living, inspiring us all to think more about our impact on the environment. Thank you to everyone who participated and supported this fantastic event.
We also selected our Wellbeing Ambassadors project this week. Representatives from each class in grades 2 through 5 have been chosen to promote positive mental health and well-being within our school community. These ambassadors will play a vital role in fostering a supportive and caring environment for all students.
As we approach the end of the school year, we want to remind you that our end-of-year assessments will begin next week. It is essential that your children have a working set of headphones at school for these assessments to ensure they can fully engage with the assessments and demonstrate their learning. You can find more details about assessments below.
Save the Date: Arts Week Concerts
Arts Week is just around the corner! As part of Arts Week, classes have music mini concerts as a celebration of their artistic talents and hard work throughout the year. Concerts will happen during the day for students and grades 2-4 will also have a show for parents after school (G2-5). Additionally, Grade 5's concert will be part of their completion ceremony, making it a memorable event for our grade 5 students. More details about the Arts Week concerts, including specific dates and times, will be provided next week.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community.
Have a wonderful weekend!

PYP Concerts and Plays
The PYP Arts department teachers and PYP students in the visual arts, music & drama, have been hard at work preparing for Arts Week which will be held May 27-31. The week will include drama plays, concerts and an art exhibition, among many other exciting student experiences!
In music, students have been developing their performance skills while delving deep into the form and function of music in preparation for the concerts. The visual arts classes have taken creativity to the limits as they explore sustainability and diversity through 3D art. Drama students in grades 4-5 have fully embodied the idea of student agency in preparing unique classroom drama performances for their audience.
We look forward to sharing our dynamic and eclectic work with the GIS community!

Threads of Change - The Fashion Show
Today we had our inaugural “Threads of Change” fashion show, which aimed to raise awareness on fast fashion and sustainability. It was clear to see that a lot of work went into the design and production of the different sustainable pieces of clothing. A huge thanks must go to Ms.Anrie, who was the driving force behind this initiative and Ms. Rupali who gave up a lot of her time to assist all the groups over the past number of weeks. A big congratulations to Kiaan , Urvi, Mia and Neeraja for their winning entry!
After today's event Kiaan, from the winning team, had the following to say:
“I am really surprised, everyone did such a great job, I didn’t think we would win.
I really enjoyed meeting new people and making new friends with my group members and others.
I didn’t find anything challenging, we had lots of help from teachers and each other and had lots of fun.”
At our school, the principle of 'Ambition for All' shapes our approach to education, ensuring that each student is engaged and challenged in a way that's just right for them. This week, our students from preK to Grade 5 have been involved in a variety of activities that demonstrate our commitment to this principle.
In our early years, young learners are delving into complex ideas with enthusiasm. PreK students are exploring numbers in creative ways during their play, while a Grade 1 student has been exploring fractions, working collaboratively with an older student to extend his learning. These activities highlight our focus on fostering curiosity and learning at every age.
For our upper primary students, the projects they undertake are closely tied to real-world applications. Grade 3 students have been making international connections through pen pal letters and learning about urban planning, considering the impacts of recent events like the Dubai floods. Grade 5 students are engaging with advanced mathematical concepts through practical applications, enhancing their understanding and encouraging meaningful discussions.
This week also featured a special collaboration between our PYP and MYP students who worked together on a sustainable fashion project. They designed and showcased eco-friendly outfits in a fashion show, highlighting creativity and awareness of environmental sustainability.
Through all these activities, our students are learning to think critically, work collaboratively, and approach challenges with resilience and determination, truly embodying our goal of ambition for all.
Term 3 Connect Eds
The purpose of Connect Eds is to support our parent community with information related to social, emotional, and academic for their children.
We have a plethora of knowledge and expertise in our Primary School Team, and they will provide practical information and strategies.
The parent community is an integral part of GIS, and we feel it is essential to make them part of our learning community.
We hope to see many of you at the Connect Eds, and closer to the time, we will send you more information on the ConnectEds in our Newsletter for times, locations, and facilitators.
Parents have all received a notification to sign up for the Toddle platform. This is an exciting enhancement to our parent communication, and this year you will receive weekly updates through the Toddle platform.
This IB affiliated platform will offer opportunities for parents to remain up to date with their child's academic progress.
The below class pages will host resources for parents and will no longer have weekly messages. All information will be sent through Toddle, so please inform your class teacher if you have any trouble registering.
