Week Twenty Eight - May 3rd, 2024
Dear Parents & Guardians
The pleasure of returning to campus recently was short lived, wth yet again, another switch to online learning. Well done to students and staff for their adaptability and flexibility. I would like to give a special mention to our Grade 12 students who experienced a hint of uncertainty as to whether their exams would continue as planned or need to be postponed. GEMS applied to KHDA for an exemption to run the examinations, which was granted. There was welcomed relief from staff when all students arrived on time for both examination sessions. Globally there are no exams today, so students get an extra day to rest, recover and revise. I would also like to thank the staff who volunteered to come into school to assist with the examinations, another example of the wonderful sense of community that we have here at GIS.
Our Future Skills Academy (FSA) ran their inaugural Business Pitch competition after school this week. Alongside Mr Simon, Mr Nic and Ms Amanda Ennis, I had the pleasure of hearing some very creative ideas for up and coming businesses. Congratulations to Suhani Kothari, the Head of FSA for ensuring that this great initiative came to fruition. I look forward to the next round!
Finally this week, a gentle reminder of our Spring Carnival, happening this Saturday afternoon. There will be a variety of exhibits and activities for families to get involved in. Having had a couple of ‘working from home’ days this week, it’s a perfect opportunity to get out and about! I look forward to seeing you there!
I wish you all a wonderful week ahead.
Kind regards
Amanda Murphy
