Week Twenty Eight - May 3rd, 2024
Grade 11
In an interdisciplinary project between DP Chemistry and DP Biology students, the groups collaborated to learn about creating a glucose standard curve, a graph used to determine glucose concentration in an unknown sample by comparing it to known glucose concentrations. DP Biology students applied the method of serial dilution to prepare different concentrations, while DP Chemistry students calculated concentrations using stock solutions and molar masses. Both groups utilized a spectrophotometer and a colorimeter to analyze their samples—Biology students focused on the transmittance, whereas Chemistry students examined the absorbance. This hands-on project not only enhanced their understanding of glucose measurement but also highlighted the integration of biology and chemistry techniques in experimental science.

Statement of Inquiry : “ Well structured messages can communicate to human beings the necessity to consider their impact on the environment.
Global Context: Globalisation and sustainability “ Human impact on the environment”
As part of our new unit, 'Ours to protect! Agissons pour notre planète,' Grade 9 has chosen to utilise the social media platform Instagram to raise awareness about the impact of humans on the environment, as well as to emphasise the importance of taking positive actions toward our HOME.".
The students are actively involved in creating their Instagram page, where they publish various posts to prompt reflection on environmental issues. Through engaging content, they aim to inspire the GIS community to consider the impact of their actions on the planet. Join us on our journey to advocate for environmental awareness! Since April 22nd coincides with Earth Day “Le Jour De La Terre” the students posted publications on their respective pages to mark the occasion."
Here is a preview of what the students have accomplished.

Quran Competition Awards 2024
Awards play a significant role in motivating and rewarding students for their hard work, dedication, and achievements. They provide recognition for their efforts, boosting their confidence and self-esteem. Moreover, awards can serve as tangible reminders of their accomplishments, encouraging them to continue striving for excellence in their academic and personal pursuits. At GIS, we held a Quran Competitions during Ramadan 2024 and by acknowledging and celebrating the achievements of our winners, we not only honored their efforts but also inspired them to reach greater heights. Congratulations to the winners of our Quran competition!
