Week Twenty Eight - May 3rd, 2024
Dear Parents,
I did not expect to be writing about rains again this week! Thank you to all staff, students and parents for the swift move to online learning. I would like to especially commend our Grade 12 students who did not hesitate to come in for the examinations on Thursday and our team of staff led by Ms Burcu who supervised and invigilated.
This week I have enjoyed meeting a variety of parents, from the German Emirates Club, where I presented at their Education Forum, through to a coffee morning and information session for Korean parents. The name of GIS is well received in the community and so many people want to hear about us and about the IB. It is a pleasure to represent GIS to a wider audience and I thank you for your loyalty in saying such positive things about our school to your friends and associates.
I am delighted that our swim team from PYP and MYP excelled recently, coming first in the Falcon International Competition. Thank you to Ms Hadeel, all swim coaches, the parent swim committee, parent-supporters and of course the dedicated children for this wonderful achievement! GIS swimmers competed against ten schools from different countries. Our swimmers gained 41 first places, and two students won first place overall in the age category: Fayth F (G8) and Scarlett D (G5). Fayth actually won all six of her individual races, which is an extraordinary achievement.
Finally, as places are filling fast in all year groups, I would urge all families to reserve your child’s seat, if you have not already done so. Please contact our Head of Admissions, Ms Maria, on m.arias_gis@gemsedu.com
Kind regards and have a good weekend,
Dear Parents/Guardians,
As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the safety and efficiency of our school dismissal process, we are implementing some changes that will take effect starting Monday April 22.
The health and safety of all students is paramount, and therefore students cannot remain on school premises after 3.30pm unless supervised by school staff (such as ECAs). We are therefore providing a safe place: the Ground Floor Canteen. Any student waiting for a sibling must now wait in the designated area within the Ground Floor Canteen. We also ask that after 3.30pm any parent who is not engaged in watching squads train at the football pitch, also wait in the designated area of the Ground Floor Canteen.
Thank you for your understanding.
