Week Twenty Seven - April 25th, 2025
Dear Parents,
This week our school is not only full of respect, but ‘faith, trust and a little bit of pixie dust’! Yes, those are the words of J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan and we were absolutely delighted by the production this week. My thanks to the amazing cast, the backstage helpers and of course Ms Emma, Ms Irasa and the whole team for the huge effort, with rehearsals beginning in October!
I was privileged to be invited by the German Emirates Club to present changes and developments in education in the UAE. I enjoyed meeting colleagues in other areas of education and delving into the exciting and ambitious plans of the UAE and how we can work towards fulfilling them.
It was my pleasure this week to hand out many Head of School’s commendations. A particularly deserving recipient was Walid E (Grade 4), who gave an accurate presentation on how fractions work to an assembly of peers and parents. It is brave to do this in front of so many people and I enjoyed Walid’s clear explanation. Walid was happy to receive the commendation, whilst dressed up for World Book Day!
On the subject of World Book Day, thank you to all the students and teachers who brought the day to life. Parents often ask me how they can help their children in their educational journey. My answer always starts with, ‘Encourage them to read, model this youerselves, celebrate their reading, read with them or to them, just keep them reading and nurture a love of reading!’
Finally, some good news when you recommend our school - you can now avail double the ambassador points to save money for yourselves. I hope this is useful.
Kind regards and have a good weekend,
The Country Ambassador program was launched in 2021 with the intention of helping connect families with their motherland tongue and country. Small community sub groups have been created to help integrate new families from these specific countries as they enroll at GIS. We encourage you to join your country group via the QR code.
Although as a whole, we are one big family, it’s always nice to connect with those from our country. Ultimately, the goal is to have at least ONE representative for each country.
If you see that your country or ambassador is not listed and you are interested in representing your country, please reach out to us via email at gispa@gemsisak.com
Our Iranian, Egyptian and Latino parents have already started to welcome returning and new parents on a nice breakfast gathering.
We encourage all GIS communities to get together and keep us posted.
GIS house color t-shirts and swim wear will be available to purchase from threads.
