Dear Primary Families,
What a wonderful week it's been at GIS! We celebrated World Book Day in style, and the creativity across our school was truly inspiring. From brilliant costumes 👒🧙♂️👑 to mystery book deliveries 📦📖 in every classroom, the love for reading was alive and well! Our costume parades were a delight to watch — thank you for helping make the day so magical! 🌟
Looking ahead, we're excited about our upcoming Student Led Conferences (SLCs) on May 15 🗓️. Please remember:
✅ This is not a regular school day for students.
✅ Students and parents attend the conference together.
✅ You’ll sign up for a homeroom slot, and then you’re welcome to drop in to the single-subject classes.
⏰ There will be no SLCs from 1–3pm across the school.
📧 An email with the sign-up link will be sent to you by May 5th.
During SLCs we will also transform the front reception into a space where you and your family could have a picnic, Slices Cafe will be open or you can bring a blanket and treats from home. This #FamilyFirst initiative is a nice way to pass the time between conferences or even before mom or dad head back to work!
As the weather heats up ☀️, please ensure all students have a hat for outdoor play 🧢👒— it's an essential part of staying sun safe at break time! If students do not have hats they will be directed to play in the shade.
Finally, a reminder that external assessments begin next week, including NGRT and MAP 📝. Please see the attached letter for more details.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership.
Warm regards,
Sarah Mclean
On Wednesday, Primary students celebrated World Book Day, which coincides with Shakespeare’s birthday, with a creative and sustainable twist. We were thrilled by the imaginative costumes—many clearly the result of hours of thoughtful preparation! Congratulations to our winners in each grade: Sleen Pre-KC, Fouzan KG1C, Ivaan KG2F, Aljalila 1A, Aleksiia 2C, Jesus 3D, Serina 4D and Ziad 5F. Each winner received a book voucher! Much excitement ensued when classes each received a 'mystery book' for a class read aloud, delivered by a masked 'book deliverer'. Students were given clues and had to guess the title. This year saw the creation of our sustainable class libraries - students brought in books they had already read, from home to swap with their friends. Grade 4C were the winners with a total of 119 books! Well done!
Parents have all received a notification to sign up for the Toddle platform. This is an exciting enhancement to our parent communication, and this year you will receive weekly updates through the Toddle platform.
This IB affiliated platform will offer opportunities for parents to remain up to date with their child's academic progress.
The below class pages will host resources for parents and will no longer have weekly messages. All information will be sent through Toddle, so please inform your class teacher if you have any trouble registering.
Parents are urged to schedule medical, dental and other appointments after school hours or during vacations.
A request must be submitted before a child can be released once in school for health and safety and reasons.
Filling in the form 24hrs in advance is expected where possible.
At the time of collection, please come to the Primary Reception at Gate 4.
Any absence (whether it is planned or unplanned ) must be communicated via email to the homeroom teacher and gis_primaryleaverequest@gemsedu.com by 8:00 AM. STS/bus users must also copy the STS manger on the email. vijesh.kumar@sts-group.com
A planned or extended absence beyond 2 days requires the completion of an absence request form
Absence for more than 3 days requires prior approval if planned or a doctors clearance for illness related leave (in some cases a medical certificate is requested )
