Week Twenty Six - April 18th, 2025
Dear Parents,
As the only school in the UAE to be part of the esteemed Gulf Athletics and Activities Conference, it was our huge pleasure to welcome 160 athletes from all over the Gulf region. Students from eight schools in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and UAE arrived at GIS on Thursday this week, to participate in golf, badminton and tennis tournaments. My thanks in particular to Mr Jason and his team, including Mr Ryan who organised the golf, Mr Tom the tennis and Mr Chris the badminton. I know the students really appreciate this amazing opportunity for competition and to share sporting values.
I am very proud of our GIS parents who show their children that they themselves are still learning, learning for life! Therefore, I am hugely grateful to Ms Wafaa and her team for organising Arabic language learning classes for our parents. These classes are very interactive and I know that this offering is hugely appreciated by our parents. Well done all! أحسنتم
The Emirate Literature Foundation sent a team of judges to our school this week because our very own Ms Louise has been shortlisted for Librarian of the Year! The environment in the Primary School Library is one that students really appreciate, with its reading corners, multilingualism, competitions and reading schemes. Along with this, Ms Louise established the Early Childhood Library this year, for our youngest students. It is no surprise that Ms Louise has been shortlisted and we wish her all the best!
Grade 5 students are busy preparing for their PYP Exhibition and gathering research by interviewing teachers and leaders. Kinda A and Roza T were incisive and rigorous in their questions for me about animal testing! I wish all our Grade 5s the very best in their approach to this important culmination to their year.
Finally, I am so looking forward to the Secondary School performances of Peter Pan Jr next week! Tickets are selling fast so good luck if you’re still hoping to go!
Kind regards and have a good weekend,
Update – Spring Carnival Cancelled
Kindly note that our Spring Carnival will not be taking place this year. This decision was made based on the feedback from our recent community survey, which indicated there wasn't sufficient interest to support the event at this time.
The Country Ambassador program was launched in 2021 with the intention of helping connect families with their motherland tongue and country. Small community sub groups have been created to help integrate new families from these specific countries as they enroll at GIS. We encourage you to join your country group via the QR code.
Although as a whole, we are one big family, it’s always nice to connect with those from our country. Ultimately, the goal is to have at least ONE representative for each country.
If you see that your country or ambassador is not listed and you are interested in representing your country, please reach out to us via email at gispa@gemsisak.com
Our Iranian, Egyptian and Latino parents have already started to welcome returning and new parents on a nice breakfast gathering.
We encourage all GIS communities to get together and keep us posted.
GIS house color t-shirts and swim wear will be available to purchase from threads.
