Week Twenty Three - March 8th, 2024
Dear Parents,
This week has been one of the most fun in the whole year at GIS – not only fun, but very educational and thoroughly entertaining!
Firstly, the production of Matilda The Musical Jr did not disappoint. It was sensational, with strong performances all round and an amazing team spirit. It was so clear that the cast had rehearsed thoroughly, and it was easy to forget that we were watching children and not a professional cast! I shall forever remember the visual impact, the beautiful songs and the confidence of the actors. Huge congratulations to all involved, from the facilities staff, to the backstage crew, the set designers, the tech team and of course the wonderful actors. Special thanks to the magnificent group of four staff who made this happen: Ms Emma, Ms Irasa, Ms Samiksha and of course Ms Ellie. Their huge efforts really paid off!
This week was also a LitFest celebration for primary children, with an Alice in Wonderland theme. Our librarian Ms Louise even appeared as quite a fierce Queen of Hearts herself and could be heard shouting ‘Off with their heads!’ around the corridors. Ms Louise persuaded me to read a young children’s version of the book to our KG1s, dressed as the Mad Hatter, which was quite nerve-wracking but the children were very attentive! Not only is Ms Louise enthusiastic and persuasive, but also organized, and we enjoyed the largest Alice in Wonderland ‘tea party’ that I have ever seen, with all the primary children and staff in costume. What an amazing way to instill a love of literature.
On Thursday I was also invited to play football with the secondary students and then enjoyed an amazing Grade 1 assembly on Biomimicry. With ConnectEds and webinars on the IB also taking place, it has been quite an action-packed week and really showed our dynamic IB school at its best.
At the time of writing, I am unsure of when the moon sighting will determine the beginning of Ramadan, but at GIS we had a lovely launch event for this special month on Friday morning. Ms Nomah and Ms Rasha deserve our thanks for organizing this and for providing an entertaining and educational way to engage our community. Ramadan Kareem!
Kind regards and have a good weekend,
Family First
