Week Twenty Three - February 24th 2023
Kim Conlin
Head of Primary
Dear PYP Parents,
I look forward to seeing you all at International Day tomorrow. This event is one that really highlights the diversity within the GIS community and also the common values that bind us together. The event kicks off at 2pm.
Please also draw your attention to a few initiatives in our community. IB learners are service minded and are always creating opportunities to take action to support others.
We are collecting books to build libraries in underprivileged schools in Africa. Last year we donated 1526 books and this year we have a goal to send 2000 books. Please help out this important cause. Boxes will be at both entrances of the school on Friday March 3rd.
Tomorrow is also the last day for collection of needed items to send to Turkey and Syria. Warm blankets and clothing and non perishable food items are needed.
See you all this weekend!

Grade 4 Taking Action
In this Grade 4 unit of inquiry, students explored the central idea that the values and structure of government have a significant impact on societies. Throughout the unit, students inquired into various forms of government around the world, including democracy, monarchy, and dictatorship, and how each system affects its citizens differently.
To deepen their understanding of the relationship between government and society, students explored the concept of responsibility, discussing how citizens and leaders have different roles and responsibilities within a government. They also looked at the ways in which the government and its citizens work together to maintain a functioning society.
Additionally, students investigated the various services that governments provide, such as healthcare, education, and public safety. Through their inquiry, they developed an appreciation for the importance of these services and how they contribute to the well- being of society as a whole.
Overall, this unit of inquiry allowed students to gain a deeper understanding of how government impacts society and the role that citizens play in shaping the values and structure of their government. By examining different forms of government, exploring the relationship between government and society, and understanding the services that governments provide, students developed a comprehensive understanding of this complex topic.
Students took action to persuade an audience that a certain political system is best.
