GIS Mental Wellness Week - Guest Speaker Session

Amarylis Harris from Reverse Psychology

This week, our Grade 11 and 12 students had the invaluable opportunity to hear from a psychologist who shared insights on understanding stress and anxiety. Amarylis Harris from Reverse Psychology, a specialist in adolescent mental health, engaged students in a meaningful discussion on the challenges they face as young adults and provided practical strategies for managing these stressors.

The session began with an overview of mental health, including common causes of stress and anxiety in high school students, such as academic pressures, social relationships, and post-graduation uncertainty. The speaker emphasized the importance of recognizing early signs of anxiety and how stress can affect both the mind and body.

Students were introduced to various coping techniques, such as mindful breathing, time management, and positive self-talk, all designed to help them navigate stress more effectively. The session was interactive, with students participating in exercises and reflecting on their personal experiences with stress.

By the end of the presentation, students left feeling more empowered, equipped with tools to manage their mental well-being. Amarylis’ message was clear: understanding and addressing stress is not only essential for academic success but also for maintaining a healthy and balanced life.

We are grateful for her time and expertise in helping our students take an important step toward better mental health and well-being.
