Week Twenty One - February 28th, 2025
Dear Parents,
We enjoyed our preparations for Ramadan at GIS on Friday. This is a time to celebrate the values of dedication, resilience and service for others, and we are so proud that our students are keen to share cultural insights. In a school of 105 nationalities, it is crucial that we respect each other through deep understanding. Therefore, I am grateful to our Islamic departments for all they are doing during this period, including the launch on Friday morning.
On Wednesday, we offered yet another ConnectEd session for parents. This week the theme was the transition from PYP to MYP and I thank Ms Sandy for the insightful presentation.
As parents are aware, GIS has an excellent record of Health and Safety. This week our swimming pool procedures received the highest rating yet, of 99% from the auditors. This is outstanding and we simply need to ensure that swim hats are worn. Well done to Ms Hadeel and team. This week we also held two drills, fire and lockdown. Both went very smoothly and leave us confident to know that we can handle a crisis and protect our students and staff effectively.
Finally, I would like to inform you of the most exciting news, which reinforces our academic strength and ambition. We are now the only school in the world to offer a pre-med course as part of our Career-related Programme! This is absolutely wonderful news and follows an agreement signed last week. To be clear, prospective medical students can now study medicine within our CP, gaining BTEC Level 3, which will allow a pathway direct into University of Bristol or the University of Europe in Cyprus. Mr Ged began the discussions at the IB Conference in Budapest, well supported by Ms Amanda, and we are now unique in offering this incredible pathway to our students who have a future in medicine.
Kind regards and have a good weekend,
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Greetings from the GIS clinic.
As part of our commitment to the safety and well-being of all students, we would like to remind you that GEMS International School is a NUT-FREE school. Peanut and nut allergies are among the most common food allergies in children, and some of our students have severe reactions. In some cases, even indirect exposure—through physical contact with a person or object that has come into contact with nuts can trigger a life-threatening allergic reaction.
To ensure the safety of all our children, we kindly ask that you do not send any nut products in your child’s lunchbox or on school trips. This policy also applies to party food, special occasions, and school events.
We greatly appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe environment for every child, including those with life-threatening nut allergies.
Thank you for your support!
Best regards,
Dr. Sanam Shaikh

The Country Ambassador program was launched in 2021 with the intention of helping connect families with their motherland tongue and country. Small community sub groups have been created to help integrate new families from these specific countries as they enroll at GIS. We encourage you to join your country group via the QR code.
Although as a whole, we are one big family, it’s always nice to connect with those from our country. Ultimately, the goal is to have at least ONE representative for each country.
If you see that your country or ambassador is not listed and you are interested in representing your country, please reach out to us via email at gispa@gemsisak.com
Our Iranian, Egyptian and Latino parents have already started to welcome returning and new parents on a nice breakfast gathering.
We encourage all GIS communities to get together and keep us posted.
From 20th February GIS house color t-shirts and swim wear will be available to purchase from threads.
