Week Twenty - February 21st, 2025
Dear Parents,
The highlight of the week was of course our World Cultures Day on Saturday! What an amazing day, all thanks to Wessam, Suad, our GISPA Team, parent country ambassadors, Operations and Facilities Staff and all those who contributed. So many nationalities were represented and we enjoyed the dancing, singing, performances, cultural insights and food from all around the world! Everyone I spoke to felt that the atmosphere was perfect, with our community at the heart of the event. Thank you again to all for making this so special.
Her Excellency Sheikha Fatima Bint Hasher Bin Dalmouk Al Maktoum honored the winning students of the third edition of the Al-Kiraam Al-Bararaah interschool Quran competition during an official ceremony held at Jumeirah College Dubai. The competition aimed to promote Islamic culture and the Arabic language, attracting over 1,000 students from 125 schools across the UAE. The winners were selected based on rigorous evaluation criteria by a jury of imams and teachers accredited by the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities in Dubai.
This event underscores the commitment to preserving Islamic heritage and fostering a deep appreciation for the Arabic language. A special congratulations to our two winners, Mashal K (Grade 4C) and Omar K (Grade 3E) for their dedication and my thanks to Ms Rasha for accompanying.
I am delighted to say that we had a very successful process for interviewing and selecting our Head of Secondary School for August 2025. Mr Aaron Kane met senior leaders for interview, including Dr Rana, the Deputy CEO of GEMS Education, he presented to middle leaders and also had time with a panel of students. Everyone was extremely impressed. Mr Aaron is an international educator and leader, currently serving as Head of Secondary at an international school in Türkiye. A British national, he brings a wealth of global experience, having worked in Serbia, the USA, Singapore, Egypt, and England. Throughout his career, he has held various leadership roles, including Head of Secondary, Director of Curriculum, Head of English, and Sports Coordinator. Passionate about education both professionally and personally, Aaron’s family shares his commitment to learning—his wife is also an educator, and they have two children in grades 8 and 10.
Kind regards and have a good weekend,

Dear Parents/Guardians,
Greetings from the GIS clinic.
As part of our commitment to the safety and well-being of all students, we would like to remind you that GEMS International School is a NUT-FREE school. Peanut and nut allergies are among the most common food allergies in children, and some of our students have severe reactions. In some cases, even indirect exposure—through physical contact with a person or object that has come into contact with nuts can trigger a life-threatening allergic reaction.
To ensure the safety of all our children, we kindly ask that you do not send any nut products in your child’s lunchbox or on school trips. This policy also applies to party food, special occasions, and school events.
We greatly appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe environment for every child, including those with life-threatening nut allergies.
Thank you for your support!
Best regards,
Dr. Sanam Shaikh
A huge thank you to our GIS families for coming together and making World Cultures Day a truly memorable event! Your enthusiasm and hard work showcased the incredible diversity of our GIS community, and this celebration wouldn’t have been a success without you.
Here are some photos to relive the wonderful moments from the day. Don’t forget to follow us on Instagram @GISPA_gis for more highlights and shoutouts!
The Country Ambassador program was launched in 2021 with the intention of helping connect families with their motherland tongue and country. Small community sub groups have been created to help integrate new families from these specific countries as they enroll at GIS. We encourage you to join your country group via the QR code.
Although as a whole, we are one big family, it’s always nice to connect with those from our country. Ultimately, the goal is to have at least ONE representative for each country.
If you see that your country or ambassador is not listed and you are interested in representing your country, please reach out to us via email at gispa@gemsisak.com
Our Iranian, Egyptian and Latino parents have already started to welcome returning and new parents on a nice breakfast gathering.
We encourage all GIS communities to get together and keep us posted.
From 20th February GIS house color t-shirts and swim wear will be available to purchase from threads.
