Week Thirteen - November 25th 2022
Kim Conlin
Head of Primary
Dear PYP Parents,
Another busy week in the PYP. A big shout out to our teachers and particularly our PE team for leading a successful sports week. Sports week included individual and collaborative activities. Some were competitive and others were focused on individual development. The week started off with a PYP group goal to run/walk the equivalent 690 km kilometers collectively (from GIS to Al Bayt Stadium where the world cup held its opening ceremony). We not only met the goal, but reached an equivalent of 781 kms with the PYP students, parents and staff. Today the final races and athletics medals were given to our 1st, 2nd and 3rd place athletes. Congratulations to all athletes and families!
On Monday, we celebrate 51 years of the UAE. Parents are invited to the opening ceremony at 8:30am. Students are welcome to wear traditional UAE clothing or flag colours and bring in dirham coins if they would like to purchase a treat from the traditional Dukkan. It is a short week next week with Thursday and Friday as national holidays.
Have a wonderful weekend.

This week was Sports Week in PYP. It's that time of year when students can get outside and have fun competing and participating in various sporting activities.
On Monday, PYP students, parents, and even a few MYP students successfully ran the collective distance from Dubai to Qatar for the World Cup. Throughout the rest of the week, grade levels participated in various sporting events as part of their House (blue dragons, yellow pythons, green mambas, red raptors). The PreK and KG1 students were lucky enough to have the superhero Flash join them for their Sports Day! Finally, students participated in the Sprint Finals and dressed as their sporting heroes on Friday.
Sports week is essential for the development of our students. After all, it's important to impart an enthusiasm for exercise if children are to lead active lifestyles when they're older. So, sports days are a great way to have fun and to frame exercise as something to be enjoyed. They're also the perfect opportunity for children to show off their skills. The competitive element of sports week is also a chance to teach children about values like teamwork, fair play and respect for others.
