Week Eleven - November 15th, 2024
Dear Parents,
I hope that you are well.
It was my pleasure this week to be part of a special assembly, which highlighted the Sheikha Fatima Award, its significance and the celebration for this year’s winner, Maitreyi Singh. HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, wife of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, has been exemplary in her support of women’s education, developing the National Strategy for Advancement of Women in 1972 and the Refugee Women’s Fund, to name just two examples of her work. Her Highness is also the Honorary President of the Emirates Red Crescent. It is fitting that one exceptional female student per year, per GEMS school, is selected for this award, based on their dedication to academic work, service to others and social enterprise. The applause for Maitreyi reflected the Grade 11s’ view of their peer, and I personally congratulate Maitreyi and thank her for all she has done for the school.
On Wednesday Katie Kemp, Educational Psychologist from Insights Psychology Clinic gave an insightful ConnectEd on executive functioning and attention deficit to our parents.
This week was the turn of our Iranian parents to have a coffee morning and presentation from the Principal. I was delighted to welcome the parents in such large numbers and sincerely hope that the presentation was helpful. Thank you to all for coming and in particularly to Ms Nasim for her excellent translation skills!
My thanks again to all parents who met our reviewers this week. The two days of review passed off very well and the reviewers thoroughly enjoyed meeting our teachers, parents and students. They commented very positively on the behaviour in the school, the overall culture, the loyal parents and the dynamic and engaging students and staff.
Kind regards and have a good weekend,
Dear Parents,
Greetings from the GIS school clinic.
We are reaching out to raise awareness about the importance of vaccinations. The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has provided a comprehensive vaccination guide, which is attached for your reference.
We encourage all parents to review these guidelines and ensure that their children are up to date with their vaccinations.
Your cooperation is vital in keeping our school community healthy.
Best regards,
GIS school clinic

The Country Ambassador program was launched in 2021 with the intention of helping connect families with their motherland tongue and country. Small community sub groups have been created to help integrate new families from these specific countries as they enroll at GIS. We encourage you to join your country group via the QR code.
Although as a whole, we are one big family, it’s always nice to connect with those from our country. Ultimately, the goal is to have at least ONE representative for each country.
If you see that your country or ambassador is not listed and you are interested in representing your country, please reach out to us via email at gispa@gemsisak.com
Our Iranian, Egyptian and Latino parents have already started to welcome returning and new parents on a nice breakfast gathering.
We encourage all GIS communities to get together and keep us posted.
