Week Eleven - November 15th, 2024
Dear Parents & Guardians,
This week, we launched our transition programme for Grade 10 students preparing to enter the Diploma Programme (DP) or the Career-related Programme (CP) in August 2025. Though it may seem early in the academic year, starting this process now is essential. The subjects in Grade 11 come with specific entry prerequisites, making it vital for students to use their time in Grade 10 wisely to ensure they meet these requirements.
Selecting subjects for the DP or CP pathways goes beyond academics. It’s a chance for students to take a meaningful look at their interests, strengths, and aspirations, setting the foundation for future success. Through this reflection, they can make informed choices that align with their passions and goals, opening doors to new learning experiences and growth opportunities.
We encourage our Grade 10 students to reflect deeply on questions like, “What am I passionate about? Which subjects truly engage me? Where do I see myself in the future?” Taking time to consider these questions helps students identify the subjects that best align with their personal interests and future ambitions.
Our dedicated team of Mr. Ged (CP Coordinator), Ms. Burcu (DP Coordinator), and Ms. Meena (University Guidance Counsellor) play an essential role in supporting students through this process. With a wealth of knowledge, they help students understand the demands of each subject, identify their strengths, and gain insight into how these subjects can align with their long-term career aspirations. Ms. Meena, in particular, offers guidance and resources to help students explore university and career requirements, ensuring students have a clear understanding of the options that lie ahead.
We also encourage open discussions at home about each student’s goals and dreams. With the support of family, combined with guidance from our coordinators and counsellors, students are better equipped to make thoughtful, well-rounded decisions about their academic journey. By engaging in this subject selection process with intention and guidance, our Grade 10 students will enter the DP or CP well-prepared to embrace challenges and pursue their aspirations with confidence and purpose.
On that point, I would like to thank the many Russian parents who joined us on campus this week for a detailed translated insight into the DP and CP pathways. Hopefully it is beneficial in aiding future conversations with your sons and daughters. With that in mind, all Grade 10 parents are reminded about the upcoming Transition ConnectEds.The first of four takes place next week focusing on the IB Pathways in general. We encourage all of our Grade 10 parents to attend where possible.
Finally this week, I would like to extend my best wishes to our swimmers and volleyball teams as they take on their first GAAC tournament. With 9 swimmers and 23 volleyball players proudly representing GIS in Kuwait and Bahrain, this marks an exciting milestone for our athletes and our school. I’m eagerly anticipating updates on their performances and know they’ll make us proud. Go Jaguars!
Enjoy the week ahead
Kind regards
Ms Amanda
