Week Ten - November 8th, 2024
Dear Parents,
I hope that you are well.
We have a school review on Monday and a chance to share and celebrate what we do well, along with the opportunity to seek support in areas which we are currently working to improve. I have been pleased to see the hard work from staff this term, ensuring challenge for all in the classroom and enhancing a sense of belonging for our new students. On that note, I would like to thank our new families for completing the survey and for indicating in such large numbers that you are promoters of our school! This is a reflection of the culture and climate in the school modelled by our staff, along with the warm welcome from well-established students and families.
I enjoy meeting groups of parents and this week had the pleasure of speaking to some of our Turkish families. I was fortunate to have Ms Burcu with me for excellent translation skills, along with her immense knowledge of the IB of course. Thank you to the parents who came, to find out more about our school, how to solve issues quickly, and to gain further insights into our classroom practice.
On Monday, we celebrated our community once again, thanks to the wonderful Diwali festivities. This festival of lights is always a feast for the eyes, apart from when I’m dancing of course! My thanks to operations staff for the set-up and to Ms Renu for her organization.
Congratulations are in order for two of our G11 students Dora O and Ahmet T who won gold this week in the Dubai Schools Games – Archery Championship.
Finally, I am absolutely thrilled to share that GIS has its first rock band – Fusion! They will perform in the Desert Rock competition; they took advantage of a Grade 10 assembly this week as a chance to perform in front of peers for the first time. It was a great rendition of ‘Sweet Child O’Mine’ and we thank Ms Verity for her dynamism in supporting this talented group of students.
Kind regards and have a good weekend,
Dear Parents,
Greetings from the GIS school clinic.
We are reaching out to raise awareness about the importance of vaccinations. The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has provided a comprehensive vaccination guide, which is attached for your reference.
We encourage all parents to review these guidelines and ensure that their children are up to date with their vaccinations.
Your cooperation is vital in keeping our school community healthy.
Best regards,
GIS school clinic

The Country Ambassador program was launched in 2021 with the intention of helping connect families with their motherland tongue and country. Small community sub groups have been created to help integrate new families from these specific countries as they enroll at GIS. We encourage you to join your country group via the QR code.
Although as a whole, we are one big family, it’s always nice to connect with those from our country. Ultimately, the goal is to have at least ONE representative for each country.
If you see that your country or ambassador is not listed and you are interested in representing your country, please reach out to us via email at gispa@gemsisak.com
Our Iranian, Egyptian and Latino parents have already started to welcome returning and new parents on a nice breakfast gathering.
We encourage all GIS communities to get together and keep us posted.
