Engineering

Program Mission

Students explore activities-based, project-based, and problem-based learning. The program’s innovative Pathway to Engineering courses engage students in real-world challenges, sharpen their collaboration and thinking skills, and prepares students for college majors in engineering and emerging technology fields. Our aspiring engineers will design and develop an original solution to an open-ended technical problem in a capstone course during their final year in the program. They will work in close collaboration with industry professionals to build and test their solutions and present and defend them to a panel. 

The CTE Course Sequence 

Although, within the magnet program you have other course options,  this is the course sequence of the approved Career & Technical Education Program

1) HONORS INTRODUCTION TO ENGINEERING DESIGN (IED)

Honors Introduction to Engineering Design (IED) is the first course for students enrolled in the Cedar Creek Engineering Magnet. The major focus of IED is the design process and its application. Through hands-on projects, students apply engineering standards and document their work. Students use industry standard 3D modeling software to help them design solutions to solve proposed problems, document their work using an engineer’s notebook, and communicate solutions to  peers and members of the professional community.

2) HONORS PRINCIPLES OF ENGINEERING (POE)

Honors Principles of Engineering (POE) is the second course for students enrolled in the Cedar Creek Engineering Magnet. This survey course exposes students to major concepts they will encounter in a post-secondary engineering course of study. Topics include mechanisms, energy, statics, materials, and kinematics. They develop problem-solving skills and apply their knowledge of research and design to create solutions to various challenges, document their work and communicate  solutions.

3) HONORS DIGITAL ELECTRONICS (DE)

Honors Digital Electronics (DE) is a third or fourth year elective course for students enrolled in the Cedar Creek Engineering Magnet. Digital electronics is the foundation of all modern electronic devices such as mobile phones, MP3 players, laptop computers, digital cameras and high-definition televisions. Students are introduced to the process of combinational and sequential logic design, engineering standards and technical documentation.

The Career Technical Student Organization (CTSO)  

TSA - Technology Student Association:  TSA fosters personal growth, leadership, and opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM); members apply and integrate these concepts through co-curricular activities, competitions, and related programs.

Work Based Learning Experiences

School Based Enterprise: Students will be assigned a teachers that will provide the student with the idea, the students will design and build a prototype of the design.

Internship– Unpaid: Students will work with an engineer to identify a problem.  Engineers from Leidos  and other local firms will mentor students in the design and build process.

Through ouro industry partners - opportunities exist for PAID internships through the Career & Technical Education Program
