Absegami High School is offering a career pathway* of a three-course sequence , over 2 years, focusing on all aspects of the landscape design and grounds management industry. These hands-on courses will cover the introductory topics related to residential and commercial landscaping. Units of study include: identifying landscape plants, designing landscape plans, pest and disease management, irrigation, nursery and greenhouse applications, and installing landscape plants. Students will have the opportunity to engage in work-based learning on the grounds and on landscaping projects at Absegami HS. Students will be trained in equipment use relevant to these fields. Community partners for this program include Galloway Township Municipal Department of Public Works, as well as, area golf courses and landscape businesses. Once approved, this program will only be offered as a CTE pathway at Absegami High School. Students from any GEHR school may transfer to Absegami for the program.
This course is the first in a three-course sequence focusing on all aspects of the landscape design and turf management industry. This hands-on course will cover all of the introductory topics related to home and commercial landscaping. Units of study include: identifying landscape plants, designing landscape plans, pest and disease management, irrigation, nursery and greenhouse applications, and installing landscape plants. Students will have the opportunity to work on the gardens and landscaping at Absegami and will be trained in basic equipment use relevant to these fields.
Landscape Technology is the second course in Absegami's Landscape Design program. This course builds on the skills learned in Landscape Design and will prepare students for industry through participation in work-based experiences in residential and commercial landscaping. Students will become proficient in the safe and efficient use of machinery and modern technology that is necessary for this field, including Safety and proper operation of commercial-grade lawn care equipment, as well as, Small engine troubleshooting and repair.
Grounds Management is the third course in Absegami’s Landscape Design program. Students will learn the art of grounds management and will develop care plans for all types of lawns/environments. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to take pesticide certification courses and earn entry-level certifications that will allow for immediate employment after completing the program. This course provides career preparation in the skills needed to design, build, and manage ornamental and natural landscapes, including irrigation systems and hardscapes. Ideal for those who enjoy working outdoors, this option is also ideal for anyone who derives satisfaction from building and completing projects.

Future Farmers of America FFA charter application in process
School based Enterprise Throughout coursework, students engage in project-based learning. Coursework include work-based experiences such as maintaining school grounds, fields and garden areas, as well as, designing and installing new areas
Community Service: In year 2 of the program, students participant in community based projects, including projects in collaboration with community and industry partners.
