It is no secret that the United States criminal justice system is fundamentally unjust and broken. Throughout the summer, we will explore issues such as the death penalty, mass incarceration, and juvenile justice. Fellows will hear from voices whose lives intersect with our system of criminal justice including formerly incarcerated individuals, public defenders, prosecutors, police, reform advocates, and more. These perspectives will allow us to engage with a debate that has become a live-wire in national politics. Fellows in this program will not only deeply understand the flaws of the present, but will envision pathways toward greater justice and equity.Â
DC is at a potential turning point in reforming the criminal justice system, and we can engage and make change right here, right now.
