It’s now been a few years since ChatGPT burst onto the scene, forcing into the public consciousness questions about AI’s role in our lives. But rapidly developing AI technology raises other questions, too: about the future of jobs, about human creative production and intellectual property, about geopolitics, about what, ultimately, it means to be human.
Can AI develop sentience? How can governments protect citizens against AI scams? How does AI-generated disinformation influence our politics? Can companies build data centers fast enough to keep up, or will AI's energy needs hasten environmental crisis? Might AI replace or extinguish humanity? What does art mean if AI can create it? And how does AI reshape the landscape of schools?
We’ll ask big questions and talk to people working on them—from technologists developing AI to those lobbying for better safeguards against it, from policymakers regulating it to workers who have lost jobs to it—and we’ll think about the role AI plays and should play in our own lives, too.
