If you are taking Introduction to Algebra, you should practice:
- Review concepts involving transformational geometry ~ translations, reflections, rotations, and dilations
- Convert numbers into scientific notation form and vice-versa
- Simplify expressions involving exponents
- Explain how proportions and linear equations are related. For example, explain the slope of a line as a unit rate.
- Solve single and paired linear equations. For ex, if 3x + 5 = 11, then x = 2.
- Compare functions shown in different forms, like a table of values and a graph.
- Explain how angles inside and outside of a triangle are related.
- Explain how angles created by two parallel lines being cut by another line are related.
If you are taking Algebra I, you should practice the material listed above as well as:
- The definition and examples of a function
- Factoring expressions
- Solving quadratic equations by factoring. Projectile motion, word problems involving consecutive integers, odd/even integers
- Pythagorean theorem solving for missing side
- Using square root function to solve quadratic problems for perfect squares
- Suggested topics to begin studying (recommend using Khan Academy to learn about and practice this material):
- Completing the square to solve quadratic equations
- Using the quadratic formula to solve quadratic equations
