Grade 8 Suggestion from Mr. Bennett: Read Night by Elie Wiesel

Here is what Mr. Bennett had to say, "I was trying to think of something to add to this site that would actually be enriching for the kids, as opposed to something that would just be senseless busy work. What I've decided on is posting a suggestion for the kids to read the memoir Night by Elie Wiesel. I think, in my own humble--yet as my wife will tell you, usually wrong--opinion, this is the most important text ever written. It is a memoir about 15-year-old Elie Wiesel's experience during the Holocaust. It is poignant, haunting, graphic, and eye-opening. And it is beautifully written. There have been many memoirs that came out of the Holocaust, but what sets this one firmly in the Pantheon of Holocaust texts is the quality of the writing; it is breathtaking in places, full of ethos and emotion, yet descriptive and factual too."
