The diligent efforts of the District to hold technology training and fine-tuning of the Priority Standards of the GDOE curriculum was instrumental in LPUMS being able to collaborate with other schools to produce SBG lessons in hard copy, and a robust online learning platform.
Being one of the STEM schools on Guam, implementation of technology in line with curriculum and teacher training prior to the pandemic allowed for the school to quickly adapt to the closure and develop diverse online learning strategies.
Strengths- Technology training for teachers prior to the start of the school year. Contact with parents through multiple avenues of communication. Together with the District, we reduced Priority Standards to one per quarter and adapted lessons in order to prepare for the new year. Educators were actively seeking technology applications and programs to enhance student participation.
When PBS University aired in April, several LPUMS teachers were featured with lessons they created. In the same month, Grab N Learn lessons, created by the District Hard Copy Planning Team were distributed along with Grab N Go lunch program. Training continued with content cadres to help maintain horizontal alignment. Pre-AP Jaguars students were able to complete STEM (science & math) lessons in Google classroom until the end of the school year.
Direction and training by the District to achieve uniformity, cohesive and enhanced priority standards proved beneficial as it fell into place with the formulation of the District Hard Copy Lessons created by representatives from LPUMS and each school to be distributed to the public through local news media.
Growth Needs: Difficulty covering all priority standards to all MOL (priority standards decrease per quarter to address this challenge). Discrepancies between hard copy and online lessons (HC only allowed 2 pages, 2-sided) , Unsuccessful attempts in establishing parent contact with a percentage of parents. Assessing students growth in HC, when we can only grade based on work turned in. FTF to HC started several weeks behind the other MOL, forced to adjust curriculum in a short amount of time.
