Due to an oversight on our part, two graphs were not included in the original 2020 ACS WASC/GDOE Self Study Report, but may provide a clearer profile of the school population.
The student attendance rate stands at 98.6%, based on the latest recorded data from the School Performance Report Cards. The attendance rate has been steadily improving after a low in SY2014-2015 of 90.8%. Attendance may have improved due to the more efficient process of tracking attendance through Powerschool. After each teacher marks the attendance online, the system sends an automated call to parents or guardians that the child has been marked absent. For habitually absent students, the system also makes it easier to determine if student absences are unexcused or if student is only skipping a class but present on campus.
The Attendance rate data was taken from the School Performance Report Cards that are annually generated by the district.
Graph 5 in Chapter 1 shows the Special Population of the school, which includes the Special Education students and the students in the English as a Second Language program. Graph 5.5 shows just the ESL population, which is divided between students who are Sheltered (attend ESL core classes) or in Consultation (attend regular classes but lesson expectations are modified and tracked). In the past four years, the number of ESL students overall have slowly decreased since SY2014-2015 with less than 200 ESL students in regular core classes.
