Before the start of the school year, GDOE prepared for 3 Models of Learning to accommodate the needs of all stakeholders. Due to the Governor's declaration to put the island on PCOR1 status, the district transitioned all students to Hardcopy and Online. At a district-wide parent meeting, LPUMS parents mentioned that our school was organized and met the needs of its students.
Strengths: Organized; principal was exceptional in keeping leadership group as part of the decision-making process (weekly meetings were held during the last quarter of the school year and throughout the summer); staff really did a great job of disseminating lessons (organized, maps for traffic flow were shared, etc.); Guam Board of Education gave authority to the GDOE Superintendent the flexibility to adjust protocols for attendance, grading policies to quickly address needs of schools - along with this, principals were given greater flexibility, as well.
Growth Needs: Contacting parents/families; consistency of being online and picking up and submitting hard copies; Teachers have had to spend their own funds for Zoom
Students have expressed challenges in Google Classroom, such as internet connection, lack of understanding the lesson, and issues regarding submission.
NAF-related activities and account closures were extremely challenging, as students were out of school. However, teacher advisors were able to conduct student meetings via Zoom or Google Meet to take action with remaining funds in accounts: funds donated to school for student-related activities (Drive-Thru promotion, ordering PPE for school)
Students reached out teachers and staff while Admin and staff organized drive thru promotion
