Ocean Education Resources: From Guam's Shallow Coral Reefs to the Deep pacific Ocean

Cara Lin

Cara works as a marine biologist, resource manager, and educator. Her work at the Guam Coral Reef Initiative focuses on seagrass and mangrove conservation, which includes developing student and public education resources, scientific research, and habitat restoration. She also provides support for watershed and coral reef-related projects.

Prior to her current position Cara worked and volunteered at various nature, outdoor, and STEM education non-profit programs in NY, GA, and FL. Last year Cara participated on a deep-sea exploration expedition aboard the E/V Nautilus and connected with dozens of classrooms in Guam while at sea.

Cara enjoys creating immersive and interactive activities for students to inspire and empower them to learn, explore, and become stewards for our natural world.

PRESENTATION: This session will provide an overview of various resources that the Guam Coral Reef Initiative can provide to local educators and librarians. Activities previewed include "choose your own adventure" virtual exploration scavenger hunts for older students, and virtual storybooks for younger students. The resources shared are custom created with photos and videos captured on Guam. Cara will also share about her time aboard the E/V Nautilus and share deep-sea coral and STEM education resources. The session will conclude with a request for feedback on marine education needs in the form of a short survey.
