For this project I mostly thought I would learn a very clear technique for curating an art exhibit. I thought there would be one specific way to go about creating an exhibit. However, this project taught me more than anything that curating is actually extremely similar to the artistic process. As someone who makes art I was surprised to find how many different ways there are to go about creating an exhibit. My interviews, visits to galleries, and time spent researching put into perspective how curating is an art form in itself. Not only did I learn more about art and get to experience more of the New York City art scene, I also honed my model making skills and dove deeper into the artistic works I chose.
If I were to restart this project and process I would focus on organizing my time more effectively for each of the weeks and try to enjoy the process more. I spent a lot of time worrying about my end result which just made me procrastinate more on starting. If I trusted the process more, it would have been a less stressful experience overall. If I were to extend my project I would create a more in depth catalog and learn more about the art history behind Cunningham’s artwork. Overall, I have felt that this project has really shown me how art and my passion for art can carry into more disciplines than I imagined.
