The Public Health Care System is very complex but accessible in Mexico. There are many plans which are broken up and distributed depending on occupation or certain circumstances. Each public health care plan has degrees. The first degree is coverage of vaccines, birth control, children growth and development, and diseases like diabetes. The second degree is general hospital care. The third degree is not always fully covered in the most basic form of public health care, which many people in Mexico City have. There are also three degrees of workers. The first degree is general pediatricians. The second is pediatrics, gynecology, and surgery doctors. The third is infectious disease doctors. Public Healthcare at its core is given to all Mexican citizens which is protected under Article 4 of the Constitution. Depending on income and employment and number of family members, the federal government will either fully pay or partially subsidize the cost of health care. No matter anyones job, some part of their health care will be covered by the government it just depends on how much. Everyone is able to have this opportunity of partially covered health care. Seguro Popular is the health care program for Mexican citizens who do not have formal employment. Around 57 million people have this form of health care. It covers 260 common diseases. The Secretariat of Health and the federal government fund Seguro Popular which represents a large portion of the population in Mexico. The IMSS program which is the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (Mexican Social Security Institute) covers over 65 million people. This is for employed citizens and their families. The IMSS does not cover public employes. The Public Health Care system in Mexico tries to accommodate everyone no matter their background and social class.
