Why did I choose this project?
One day in the spring of 9th grade, I was sitting in Dr. Kuntz's literature class, writing an in-class response. She allowed us to listen to music if we wanted. Most people pulled out their headphones, while others did not. I listened to white noise, but I could see that my friend next to me was listening to pop. I wondered if this is actually helpful for concentration. I decided this could be a good IP10 project. I refined the project more to help specifically girls with ADHD. I know many girls, including myself, who did not get diagnosed with ADHD until later in grade school, so I wanted to create a tool that can help all students, but specifically undiagnosed girls with ADHD, study. I felt passionate about this project and decided to continue it.
What did I learn about myself?
Through this project, I learned a lot about time management. Although we had months to work on this project, I found myself cramming in work just before the deadline. The two weeks that we had off for March Madness were helpful in completing all of my experiment, but I wish I utilized the time more and researched my topic. I learned that it is hard to motivate myself to do work when the deadline is so far away. I procrastinate. If I were to do this project again, I would plan out my work better, and follow that plan. I learned a lot about my work style and how to improve it.
