Reading

We use the Reading Wonders curriculum as the base of reading instruction in our school corporation. This curriculum has 6 units and we work on skills in two week rotations Week 1 & 2, Week 3 & 4, Week 5 for review and Week 6 for assessment. Every two weeks we have a short assessment to check reading skills and vocabulary.

Each week students will be given a list of 15 words that demonstrate our phonics skill for the week. On Friday we will take a test over 10 words from the list.

Expanding vocabulary is an important skill to develop in all subject areas. Every two weeks students will have vocabulary words that relate to our reading skills. These vocabulary words are assessed throughout our unit assessments. We will also be working on building vocabulary in math, science, and social studies.
