Department: Malacology
Supervisor: Christy Bills, Invertebrate Collections Manager
Malacology Collection Assistant volunteers are responsible for maintenance and pest management in the malacology collection. Collection Assistant volunteers are a hugely important factor in recording, protecting, and preserving NHMU’s 1.6 million objects and artifacts in our care. With training in collections care and record-keeping protocols, they assist our curatorial staff in making sure our collections are available to scientists, researchers, and the public, both within our walls and around the globe.
Training Required:
All new Malacology Collection volunteers will receive a tour of the Malacology Department and on-the-job training.
Shift times:
A set schedule will be based on the availability of the volunteer and the supervisor, but we request that in the beginning the work take place within the normal work week.
Time Commitment: A minimum of three hours per week is requested for a duration of 6 months, but more is always appreciated!
Age Requirement: 18 years or older
